Harry Carey Caretaker's House
At Tesoro del Valle in San Francisquito Canyon

[HARRY CAREY INDEX][ZOOM IN]

Aug. 14, 2001: Caretaker's House at the entry to the Harry Carey Ranch property, at 28515 San Francisquito Canyon Road.

The caretaker's house is believed to have been built at the direction of Harry and Olive Carey c. 1937 on the former site of the Harry Carey Trading Post, which was destroyed in the St. Francis Dam disaster of March 12-13, 1928. The caretaker's house was not completed by the time the Careys sold the property in 1944; it was probably completed by the Clougherty family after they acquired the property c. 1953.

The caretaker's house was essentially abandoned after the earthquake of Jan. 17, 1994, when it sustained heavy damage. It is located nearly one mile east of the main Harry Carey Ranch complex and is slated for demolition under the plans for the Tesoro del Valle housing development.

(Update: It was torn down shortly after this photograph was taken; sometime before March 9, 2002.)
