Lang Station, 1959
Soledad Canyon
SP 5472, an Electro Motive Division SD-9, hauls train No. 801 past Lang Station in today's Canyon Country in August, 1958. The station, the site of the golden spike ceremony in 1876 linking northern and southern California, was torn down in 1971 after the Southern Pacific ended passenger service. (This locomotive still exists, however. The Pacific Locomotive Association is restoring it for use hauling tourists on the Niles Canyon Railway in the San Francisco Bay area.)
