The Newhall auto tunnel, seen here in 1914, replaced Beale's Cut as the passageway through the mountains south of Newhall in 1910. It was removed in 1938 to make way for the modern Sierra Highway.
Photo taken during a June 1914 auto tour by persons unknown, who traveled from Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe by way of Sacramento in a 1910 Ford and a 1911 Maxwell.
