Death of Arthur Charles Mentry, Son of Oilman Alex Mentry.

Santa Barbara, March 16 — Funeral services for Arthur Charles Mentry, 73, whose father is credited with locating and drilling the first oil well in California in Pico Canyon near Newhall, were conducted here today.

The well drilled by his father is still known as California No. 1 and is still producing near Newhall, formerly known as Mentryville.

He was a native of Los Angeles. Before coming here he operated restaurants and a ranch in the San Fernando Valley.

He leaves his widow and a son James of Bakersfield.
