Dr. Sarah L. Murray was Newhall's medical practitioner during the 1940s and '50s. Her office was located on the west side of Spruce Street (San Fernando Road) between Market and Eighth Streets.

No, hay wasn't normally scattered in the street during this period. The bales of hay in this photograph provided seating for parade spectators on the Fourth of July, c. 1950-52.
