Root, Clerk of the Supreme Court; Thomas J. ?, Superintendent of Public Instruction; and Alfred J. Johnston, Superintendent of State Printing.

Gage, a Republican, became governor of California on Jan. 5, 1899, and served one term. He owned several successful gold mines in the Acton area.
