Sonia Domingo Robles, 78, of Granada Hills, California, passed away on June 2, 2017, in Stevenson Ranch, California.

Visitation and Rosary will begin at 10:00am, June 12, 2017, at Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, June 12, 2017, at San Fernando Mission Rey de España with Fr. Julio Roman officiating. Burial will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary.

Sonia Robles was born in Santiago de Cuba to Manuel and Isabel Domingo on October 30, 1938. Her full name was Sonia Luisa Amparo Olimpia Domingo y Ornellas de Robles. She went to school at Colegios Internacionales de El Cristo and, in Havana, Cuba. She married Ignacio Hormigo Robles on August 31, 1963, in Los Angeles. She was a homemaker and worked as an assembler in manufacturing and in food service at California State University, Northridge. She attended Santa Rosa Catholic Church in San Fernando, California, as well as St. John the Baptist de la Salle in Granada Hills.

Sonia Robles is preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Isabel Domingo, her husband Ignacio Robles, brother Ramon Domingo, sister Isabel Perez, and brother Manuel "Manolo" Domingo.

Sonia Robles is survived by her son Ignacio Robles and Gary Hamm, son Ruben and Terrie Robles, and daughter Sonia Bojanski; brothers Victor Domingo and Fr. Alberto Domingo; grandchildren Jordan Woods, Natasha Markham, Jake and Zack Robles; and great-grandchildren Damian and Saxton Woods, Myles Reel, and Emery Olson.

Sonia lived her life for her children and took others into her family — treating them as her children and serving as "second mom." She loved traveling with her young family for camping, fishing and sight-seeing trips throughout the western US, Mexico, and Canada. She was a care-giver at a young age for a beloved uncle before moving to Havana. Then, struck at 52 with a rare form of stroke, she fought onward with the support of her son and son-in-law to live another 26 years for her children. Through most of the "extra" 26 years that we had her, she made sure we had her favorite homemade Cuban dishes almost every day. One of her most frequent trips was to the casinos, always hoping to hit "the big one" to leave to her children; her last scratcher was a winner.

She maintained a resolute will to survive with dignity — with no fear of death — no matter what problem was thrown at her. Memorials may be given in her name to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, at 866-278-5833.

Pallbearers will be Ignacio Robles, Gary Hamm, Ruben Robles, and Jordan Woods.

The family of Sonia Robles wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Asher Taban, Dr. Tedmur Qozi-Habash, Dr. Philip Chatham, Dr. Mostafa Tabassomi, Dr. Thomas Kurian and Dr. Ashok Lall; the nurses of True Care Hospice particularly Ann Kasper, Kathleen Rose, and Ayanka Edirisinghe; and, her friend Ms. Florence Haro.
