Actor James Arness during his earlier days as Marshal Matt Dillon in "Gunsmoke." According to Renaud Veluzat, owner [2001] of the Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio in Placerita Canyon, the long-running television Western was filmed at Gene Autry's Melody Ranch from the show's inception in 1955 until 1962, when Melody Ranch burned down.
