The Mansion
Piru, California
Known as "The Mansion" or the "Piru Mansion," this Queen Anne-style
home was built at the top of Park Street in Piru in the 1870s or 1880s by evangelist
David Caleb Cook as his residence. This is actually the reconstruted Mansion; it was
rebuilt to the original specifications by owners Scott and Ruth Newhall
after burning to the ground in 1981. What had cost Cook $75,000 would cost $1.5 million
to replicate, not counting furniture.
