Newhall, Calif. Sept. 12, 1923.
Regular meeting of the Newhall Chamber of Commerce called to order
at 8.15 P.M. in the Masonic Club Room by Pres. Swall.
Twenty-five members present.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Mr. McMannus said that he had nothing to report at present on curbs
and sidewalks but that he would have something of interest to report at the next meeting.
P.C. Miller reported that the petition asking for the establishment
of a fire district had been accepted by the County Board of Supervisors and that so far no
protests had been offered.
The Treasurer reported having on hand the sum of $292.80.
The committee on Finance was requested to devise some way of raising
funds for the Chamber.
Pres. Swall reported that an engineer would be here on Saturday and
make a survey of the present water plant.
Mrs. Gifford asked that the Chamber take up the proposition of
providing a public water place and Pres. Swall said that he would take the matter up with Mr.
Perkins and report at next meeting.
Some of the members of the Social Welfare Committee said that they
were somewhat in the dark as to what their duties were. The Secretary read the instructions
applying to each member of the committee.
The President suggested that all standing committees get busy and have
something to report at next meeting.
Mr. Kornellison suggested that the County Road Foreman be approached
in regard to putting up street signs. Mr. McMannus was asked to handle this matter.
Mrs. Brown was appointed a committee of one to secure house numbers
and induce property owners to place same on their houses.
P.C. Miller suggested that we conduct a membership drive, this lead to the
Treasurer being asked to notify all members who are delinquent.
After considerable discussion it was decided to hold a cleanup
day on Saturday, Sept. 22.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned to Sept.
26th at usual time and place.
